Canada’s Patent Prosecution Highway Projects with Denmark, Japan and Korea will be Extended

Tuesday, October 15, 2013
CIPO recently announced the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot projects between Canada and Denmark, Japan and Korea will be extended starting October 1, 2013.

Specifically, PPH agreements have replaced the pilot projects with Korea and Denmark for an unfixed term. Japan’s pilot project has been extended for three years and will end on September 30, 2016.

As we previously mentioned in other blog posts relating to patent prosecution highway projects, the PPH allows a patent applicant to request the CIPO for accelerated examination of a patent application that meets specific criteria to be advanced out of turn for exam if there is at least one corresponding application in a foreign patent office that Canada has a PPH relationship with.
